Cape Panwa Travel Guide
How to Get There
Panwa is some 10 kilometres from Phuket Town. The southernmost tip of this cape is home to a Marine Biological Research Centre and Phuket's Aquarium where visitors may inspect several hundred exotic, grotesques, and flamboyantly colourful marine species found in the teeming waters of Phuket and elsewhere.
There are always local taxis standing around ready to take you anywhere on the island. The pricing is quite expensive on Phuket compared to the rest of Thailand, but that comes with it being a tourist driven economy. You will find no tuk-tuks in this area, but a wide array of taxis and vans. They dont use meters but rather have set prices for every area on the island.
What to see
Phuket Aquarium (ʶҹáÊ´§¾Ñ¹¸ØìÊѵÇì¹éÓÀÙà¡çµ). Offers the opportunity to observe local marine life up close without the necessity of diving beneath the waves. More than one hundred aquatic species are housed at this facility, which is one of Thailand's principle centres for research into the whales, dugongs, sharks, dolphins and sea turtles that make their home in the water around Phuket. The centre is open daily from 9.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m. Admission is 100 baht for adults and 50 baht for children. To get there, one can take Songthaeo (local bus) from the local market on Ranong road in Phuket Town. Tel: 0 7639 1126 or www.phuketaquarium.org for further information.
